The NDLEA has disrupted a major drug trafficking ring after discovering cocaine hidden in food flasks bound for the UK and cannabis 9in snack packs from the US, alongside massive seizures in Kaduna, Edo, and Cross River.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted 2.80 kilograms of cocaine concealed within food flasks at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The consignment, which was bound for the United Kingdom via a Virgin Atlantic flight, was discovered at the airport’s export shed on April 9, 2026. The operation led to the immediate arrest of two cargo agents, followed by the apprehension of the alleged sender, 52-year-old freight forwarding agent Agoro Tajudeen Moninuola, in a subsequent investigation.
In a parallel operation at the airport’s import shed, the agency intercepted 2.90 kilograms of “Loud” cannabis hidden inside snack packs arriving from the United States. Following the arrest of two clearing agents, a follow-up sting operation in the Ogba area of Lagos nabbed the intended recipient, a 29-year-old fashion designer. These airport seizures are part of a broader weekend crackdown that saw NDLEA agents intercepting tramadol bound for Ghana and raiding various hideouts across Lagos Island to recover additional cannabis supplies.
The agency’s weekend offensive extended across Nigeria, resulting in the destruction of approximately 17,280 kilograms of cannabis on farmlands in Cross River and Edo states. On the Kaduna-Zaria highway, officers discovered 847 kilograms of cannabis hidden inside a cement truck, leading to the arrest of the driver. These latest actions build on the NDLEA’s reported momentum; the agency has arrested over 62,000 suspects and destroyed more than 10 million kilograms of illicit substances since 2021.
