Education advocate Alex Onyia sponsored Nigerian students to the International STEM Olympiad in Rome, where three secured gold medals. Onyia invested €30,500, seeing it as a way to motivate other children and showcase that any child can excel with effort. The students were selected after competing in the South-East Mathematics Olympiad.
The rigorous preparation began in March, continuing from their local competition efforts. Despite the high cost, community support and online outreach helped fund the trip. Onyia believes Nigerian students are the nation’s greatest resource, surpassing crude oil, and aims to foster their development in STEM.
