Lagos State is phasing out old landfills, replacing them with recycling and waste-to-energy plants to tackle its waste crisis. LAWMA’s MD, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, announced plans during a media parley to transition to a circular economy.
Challenges like flooding and dwindling landfill capacity are being addressed with infrastructure development, including transfer loading stations and material recovery facilities. Waste-to-energy plants are also planned, with a 3-5 year timeline.
