Kaduna State has reinstated its Christian pilgrimage programme after 11 years, sponsoring 50 pilgrims and drawing commendation from CAN for promoting inclusivity and interfaith harmony.
The Kaduna State Government has resumed its Christian pilgrimage programme after an 11-year suspension, with 50 intending pilgrims set to embark on the journey under government sponsorship following the 2025 orientation exercise. The last pilgrimage from the state took place in November 2014, when 567 pilgrims were airlifted to Israel. Announcing the resumption, the state’s Head of Service, Jummai Bako, praised Governor Uba Sani for restoring the initiative, describing the move as reflective of leadership that values spiritual growth alongside physical and economic development.
Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, said the programme underscores the administration’s commitment to justice and inclusiveness and urged the pilgrims to pray for peace and unity. The Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) welcomed the decision, describing it as a renewed commitment to Christian pilgrimage and a significant step toward promoting interfaith harmony, while calling for the strengthening of the Kaduna State Christian Welfare Pilgrims Board to ensure transparency and continuity.
