ICYMI:Gbaja disowns Adeyemi, “Presidential Foreign Intervention Council,” but budget says otherwise with N1.3bn allocation

Presidential Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila has disowned the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and its self-proclaimed head, Adeniyi Adeyemi, even though the council is listed in the 2026 Appropriation Act with a budget of over N1.3 billion.

On June 11, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, issued a public disclaimer disowning the appointment of one Adeniyi Adeyemi as head of the “Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.”

“It has come to the notice of the Federal Government of Nigeria and specifically the Office of the Chief of Staff to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR that a certain Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, under the auspices of an alleged organisation styled as the ‘Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council’ is portraying himself to the general public as having been appointed by my office,” Gbajabiamila said.

According to The Cable, development organisations, financial institutions and the public to disregard any claims linking the council to the presidency.

But Adeyemi isn’t backing down. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday in Abuja, he rejected Gbajabiamila’s disclaimer, calling it a glaring contradiction of official government records.

Adeyemi claimed the council operates accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), maintains office space at the federal secretariat, and received approval for over 300 staff from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. He argued these records would be hard to reconcile with the presidency’s insistence that the council has no legal or administrative existence — and called on Tinubu to set up an independent panel to investigate all official records tied to the council.

What the budget shows

A review of the 2026 Appropriation Act appears to back Adeyemi’s claims. The document lists the “Presidential Economic Advisory Council/Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council” under the presidency, with a total budget of N1,302,978,784 — comprising N802,978,783 for personnel costs, N200,000,001 for overhead, and N300,000,000 for capital projects.
