“When I had the privilege to make Fuji music mine, I didn’t do so.”
Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has declared himself the foremost promoter of the Yoruba music genre, Fuji. In a pre-recorded interview with Agbaletu TV, Ayinde revealed he registered the Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria with the Corporate Affairs Commission and drafted its constitution single-handedly. He lamented that critics overlook his contributions, stating, “God used me to do many things for Fuji music. What have I been paid with?”
K1 De Ultimate also addressed his rift with the late Fuji legend, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, denying allegations he insulted his former boss. He attributed the conflict to a musician friend’s actions and Barrister’s aides, saying, “It was a musician friend who insulted him, but because I was at the event, I was labeled an accomplice.” Ayinde insisted he remained respectful to Barrister despite the controversy.
