‘He oppressed many’ — Adeyanju slams El-Rufai’s rule of law plea

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has criticised former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai for invoking the rule of law after an alleged attempt by security agents to arrest him at the Abuja airport.

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has criticised former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, saying the ex-governor who allegedly oppressed people while in office is now appealing to the rule of law. Adeyanju’s remarks followed an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, where security agents reportedly attempted to arrest El-Rufai upon his return from Cairo, Egypt.

El-Rufai was said to have resisted the move, insisting that the security operatives formally issue him a letter of invitation instead of effecting an arrest at the airport. The circumstances surrounding the attempted arrest were not immediately clear as of press time.

In a statement, El-Rufai wrote, ”My lawyers have issued a statement that condemns the illegal attempt to arrest me today at the Abuja airport upon my arrival from Cairo. Our country must outgrow executive overreach and deliberate disregard for the rule of law.”
