The Guinean FA has denied viral claims that it appealed to overturn Morocco’s 1976 AFCON victory, calling the reports inaccurate and without official basis.
The Guinean Football Federation has dismissed viral reports claiming it filed an appeal to contest 1976 Africa Cup of Nations victory by Morocco national football team. The federation said it had not approached any football judicial body, including Confederation of African Football, over the outcome of the tournament.
In a statement, the federation said, “The Guinean Football Federation wishes to clarify… that this information is inaccurate and has no official basis.” It explained the March 14, 1976 match between Guinea and Morocco ended 1-1, allowing Morocco to win the title under the round-robin format used at the time.
