4 Cops Arrested for Extorting ICPC Chairman
Four policemen are facing orderly room trial and possible dismissal after allegedly setting up an unauthorised checkpoint in Abuja’s Wuse-Banex axis and extorting ICPC chairman Musa Aliyu (SAN) of ₦53,000. FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi disclosed this while parading suspects on Monday, according to The Nation.
Sanusi said the officers forced Aliyu to a POS operator where the money, including charges, was withdrawn and shared among them. The victim’s report triggered an intelligence-led operation that led to the gang leader’s arrest and, subsequently, his accomplices.
Sanusi also reiterated a ban on police conducting indiscriminate phone searches, stressing this can only happen post-arrest and at a station.
