Former PSC chair Simon Okeke calls on Atiku to step aside for Obi

Chief Simon Okeke has called on Atiku Abubakar to concede his 2027 presidential ambitions in favor of Peter Obi to honor regional rotation conventions and promote national healing.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, former Police Service Commission Chairman Chief Simon Okeke urged former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and support Peter Obi, citing Obi’s unprecedented “universal nationwide acceptance.” Okeke argued that Abubakar should reciprocate the long-standing support of the South East by adhering to the political convention of a Southern presidency, warning that a failure to do so would contradict his image as a “true friend of Ndigbo.” Appealing to Northern and South Western voters on the grounds of equity, Okeke asserted that electing the former Anambra governor would help “put the burden of the Nigeria-Biafra war behind us permanently,” while maintaining that “nonetheless, among all the presidential aspirants today, he is the most acceptable nationwide.”
