States Eye Existing Outfits for State Police
Five Nigerian states—Ondo, Kaduna, Anambra, Zamfara, and Abia—are poised to transform their existing security outfits into state police. This follows the House of Representatives’ passage of a bill to decentralize policing. These states prioritize leveraging established structures, local expertise, and cost efficiency. However, other states, including Bayelsa and Imo, await constitutional finalization, while Delta State plans to build entirely new police headquarters from the ground up.
