DSS to appeal jail terms for three convicted terror suspects, says sentences too lenient

The Department of State Services says it will challenge the prison terms handed to three men convicted in separate terrorism-related cases, insisting the sentences are too lenient for the gravity of their crimes.

DSS TO APPEAL SENTENCES OF THREE TERRORISM CONVICTS

The Department of State Services (DSS) plans to appeal prison sentences given to three men convicted in separate terrorism cases, insisting the punishments do not reflect the gravity of their offences.

According to Naija News, the agency is dissatisfied with judgments from the Federal High Court in Kano and a Katsina State High Court. Jamilu Ibrahim received a 32-year sentence, while Rayya Haruna and Audu Adamu Tubali were each sentenced to 10 years after being convicted in separate cases.

The DSS said the men were arrested in operations that uncovered weapons and ammunition linked to terrorist and bandit groups. The agency will now approach the appellate court to seek stiffer penalties, maintaining the sentences are inadequate for the crimes committed.
