A Federal High Court has refused to ease Nasir El-Rufai’s bail conditions in his wiretapping trial, even as the DSS closed its case and the defence prepares a no-case submission ahead of a September 22 hearing.
Nasir El-Rufai isn’t getting any breathing room. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik has refused to soften the former Kaduna governor’s bail conditions, telling the court qualified sureties — Level 17 civil servants with property in Maitama or Asokoro, plus attestation from Kaduna’s Traditional Council — are very much out there, according to The Nations.
But there’s a twist: the DSS just closed its case, saying no more witnesses are coming. El-Rufai’s lawyer, Paul Erokoro, wasted no time, announcing the defence will file a no-case submission, insisting prosecutors never built a strong enough case to proceed.
The matter returns September 22, 2026, when the court hears that submission and trial continues.
