Canada airport: Police dog uncovers Nigerian traveller’s hidden guinea fowl, goat meat package

A Nigerian traveller was slapped with a $1,300 fine after a sniffer dog uncovered 37 kilograms of undeclared meat and food products at Toronto’s Pearson Airport.

Nigerian Traveller Fined Over Hidden Meat Haul at Canada Airport

Detector Dog Dharla caught the unnamed passenger arriving from Nigeria on June 19, according to a statement from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reported by Peoples Gazette.

Officers seized the haul, which included guinea fowl, goat meat, cowhide and powdered milk. The CBSA said travellers must declare all food, plant and animal products entering Canada, warning such items can carry invasive species and disease risks.

Dharla has served the agency since March 2023, helping intercept drugs, guns, cash and food. In April, another sniffer dog, Moby, caught a Nigerian traveller smuggling kilishi and chicken jerky.
