Former SGF Babachir Lawal has predicted in a Symfoni TV interview that a joint Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket would have a 70 percent chance of defeating President Tinubu in 2027, while dismissing Atiku Abubakar’s chances entirely, saying “definitely, Atiku will lose — I pray he loses.”
BABACHIR’S 2027 VERDICT: OBI-KWANKWASO 70%, TINUBU 50%, ATIKU ZERO
Babachir Lawal is done being diplomatic — and he has the numbers to prove it.
In a Symfoni TV interview released on Saturday, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation delivered his most precise 2027 presidential verdict yet, pairing Peter Obi with Rabiu Kwankwaso and declaring the combination the strongest opposition ticket available.
“Peter Obi, Kwankwaso, take note, I’m pairing them. Individually will be disaster, but I’m pairing them. So I’ll give them, on my own scale, close to like 70 per cent,” Lawal said.
He gave President Bola Tinubu a 50 percent chance of retaining power — a rating that reflects both the incumbent’s organisational strength and the widespread public discontent Lawal has previously described in scathing terms.
For Atiku Abubakar, Lawal reserved his sharpest words: “Atiku will lose. He will, and I pray he loses. I’m not the only one, and he will lose.”
The remarks carry the additional weight of personal history. Lawal has repeatedly alleged that the ADC presidential primary that produced Atiku as the party’s flagbearer was marred by widespread irregularities — claims the party has consistently refuted — and his subsequent resignation from the ADC has coloured his increasingly public opposition to the former vice president’s political ambitions.
