AGF details how DG Adeyemi hijacked letter to cover PFIPC fraud

Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, has told a House of Representatives committee that PFIPC’s self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, intercepted a letter that would have exposed the forged documents behind the phantom agency’s creation.

The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, on Monday told the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) that the council’s self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, intercepted a letter that could have exposed the alleged forgery of documents used by the organisation.

Daily Trust reports that Ogunjimi made the disclosure while appearing before the committee probing the PFIPC controversy and the N1.3 billion allocated to the council in the 2026 Appropriation Act. Adeyemi, arrested by operatives of the Police Intelligence Response Team in Osun State on July 14, had claimed Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila issued his appointment letter, an allegation Gbajabiamila denied.

The AGF said the OAGF first received a request in November 2024, purportedly from the State House, seeking an administrative code for the council. He said the request appeared genuine, prompting the treasury to create the code and respond to the State House on November 29, 2024, with a copy sent to the Budget Office.

However, Ogunjimi alleged the response never reached the State House because it was intercepted by Adeyemi.

“Unfortunately, as events unfolded, it was discovered that that letter did not get to the State House. It was hijacked, precisely by the same man who claimed to be the director-general,” he said, noting that had the letter reached the State House, officials would have immediately noticed the original request was never genuinely issued.

Ogunjimi said the OAGF later discovered all documents submitted by the council’s promoters were forged, including a fake Act purportedly enacted by the National Assembly and a fake appointment letter.

He also disclosed that two treasury staff working with PFIPC had originally been posted to the Office of the Chief Economic Adviser in 2010 and 2013, and had unknowingly been absorbed by the fake agency.

Meanwhile, the House committee has directed the IGP to produce Adeyemi before it on Wednesday, with police confirming an eight-count charge has already been filed against him at the Federal High Court.
