Hajiya Asia El-Rufai, second wife of detained former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged via Facebook that she and co-wife Aishatou are being tracked and their phones tapped, warning the government will be held accountable for their safety.
Hajiya Asia El-Rufai, second wife of detained former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has gone public with claims that she and her co-wife, Aishatou El-Rufai, are under covert surveillance
In a Facebook update, Asia alleged that their personal phone lines have been compromised and that they’re being watched, expressing deep fear for their safety. She didn’t mince words, putting the government on notice should anything befall them.
“They are following me and Aisattou… Our phones are bugged,” she wrote, adding that their lives are now in danger and demanding the authorities explain themselves if harm comes their way.
The alarm lands amid mounting tension over El-Rufai’s continued detention, a saga his family has repeatedly described as harassment. According to Daily Post, El-Rufai’s second wife earlier told reporters outside a DSS facility that the family now lives “under the shadow of threats and surveillance,” citing daily warnings of raids by the DSS, ICPC and police, plus claims of phone-tapping and being trailed.
Security agencies have yet to formally respond to the latest allegations. The ICPC has previously brushed off similar claims from the El-Rufai household as false and politically motivated, insisting its officers simply enforce standard detention protocols.
With El-Rufai’s prosecution still grinding through the courts and his family alleging escalating intimidation, the drama trailing Nigeria’s most talked-about ex-governor shows no sign of letting up.
