Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Nigerians to embrace healthy living, saying discipline and regular exercise have helped him manage diabetes for more than four decades.
Speaking during the 2026 First Bank/OBJ Golf Tournament in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo said he remained active at 89 because of his commitment to healthy habits.
“I’m officially 89 years old,” the former president said, adding that he had lived with diabetes for over 40 years.
Obasanjo stressed the importance of proper diet, rest, exercise, medical check-ups, social interaction and contentment, which he described with the acronym “DREAMS+C.”
He advised Nigerians, especially senior citizens, to prioritise their health through routine exercise, medical care and disciplined lifestyles.
