Jonathan: Nigerians have normalised killings, insecurity

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has warned that Nigerians have become dangerously desensitised to killings and insecurity, calling for moral renewal, spiritual guidance, and focused leadership to reverse the country’s declining values.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has warned that Nigerians have normalised killings and insecurity, lamenting a dangerous erosion of the nation’s moral fabric.

Speaking Saturday at the 13th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Abuja at St James Anglican Church, Asokoro, Jonathan said the country urgently requires focused and courageous leadership.

“When we look around today, particularly at the challenges confronting our country, it is easy to become discouraged. Violence, insecurity, moral decline, and the loss of human values have become deeply troubling realities,” he said.

The former President warned: “Today, people are killed, communities are destroyed, and life seems to continue as though nothing has happened. This ought not to be so.”

He called on the Church to remain society’s conscience, adding: “Leadership matters greatly in moments like this. Society progresses when men and women of integrity, courage, and vision stand in the right places.”
