United States President Donald Trump has announced that American forces, in collaboration with the Nigerian military, have successfully eliminated the global second-in-command of ISIS, Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, during a highly complex operation in Africa.
United States President Donald Trump has announced that American special forces, working in close coordination with the Nigerian Armed Forces, have successfully eliminated senior Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) leader Abu-Bilal al-Minuki. Making the announcement on his Truth Social platform on Friday evening, Trump described the joint counterterrorism operation as a highly sophisticated and precise offensive. Al-Minuki, a Nigerian national who had been designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the US State Department in 2023, was identified as the global second-in-command of ISIS and the mastermind behind several expansive insurgent operations across the African continent and the Sahel region.
The high-stakes mission marks a major breakthrough in international military cooperation between Washington and Abuja as West African nations battle a resurgence of Islamic State and Al-Qaeda-linked factions. According to the US President, intelligence repositories had closely monitored the movements and communication channels of the elusive terror chief before launching the decisive strike. “Tonight, at my direction, brave American forces and the Armed Forces of Nigeria flawlessly executed a meticulously planned and very complex mission to eliminate the most active terrorist in the world from the battlefield,” Trump stated. He added, “Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, second in command of ISIS globally, thought he could hide in Africa, but little did he know we had sources who kept us informed on what he was doing.”
The elimination of al-Minuki is expected to severely disrupt the administrative and financial command structures of ISIS, which relies on regional operational offices to funnel resources to global affiliates. President Trump extended his gratitude to the Nigerian government for its partnership, noting that the collaboration effectively safeguards both local communities and international security interests. “He will no longer terrorize the people of Africa, or help plan operations to target Americans. With his removal, ISIS’s global operation is greatly diminished. Thank you to the Government of Nigeria for your partnership on this operation,” the American leader concluded.
