FG applauds World Bank’s new support for social safety nets programme

The Federal Government has inaugurated a 12-member team to implement a World Bank grant aimed at modernizing Nigeria’s social protection systems through the Household Prosperity and Empowerment (HOPE-SP) Project.

The Federal Government has reached a significant milestone in its fight against poverty by inaugurating a 12-member Grant Implementation Team for the World Bank’s Grant Facility for Project Preparation (GFPP). Dr. Bernard Doro, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, praised the initiative as a “flagship national intervention” designed to transition Nigeria toward the Household Prosperity and Empowerment (HOPE-SP) Project.

Represented by Permanent Secretary Olubunmi Olusanya, the Minister charged the team to “ensure compliance with World Bank guidelines” and “deliver high-quality technical documentation.” World Bank Senior Economist Maheshwor Shrestha noted that the GFPP is designed to “accelerate project readiness,” while team leader Valentine Ezulu pledged to “ensure that the project positively impacts millions of poor and vulnerable Nigerians” ahead of the April 27, 2026, work plan deadline.
