A PDP faction led by Taminu Turaki has opposed endorsing President Bola Tinubu for 2027, insisting the party must remain a strong and independent opposition.
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to Taminu Turaki has rejected any move to endorse Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing such action as immoral and unjust. The stance was made public by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show.
Ememobong stressed that it would be improper for a major opposition party like the PDP to support the presidential ambition of a candidate from the ruling All Progressives Congress. He maintained that the party must retain its independence and credibility rather than become aligned with the government.
He expressed optimism that ongoing reconciliation efforts within the PDP would prioritise strengthening the party as a viable opposition force. According to him, the Turaki-led faction will push for decisions that reinforce party unity while resisting any attempt to turn the PDP into an appendage of the ruling party.
