Eight die in suspected terrorist IED attack along Borgu road in Niger

Eight people were feared killed in Niger State after suspected terrorists bombed a bridge and an IED struck a vehicle travelling along Luma Road in Borgu LGA.

Eight persons were feared dead on Monday after a vehicle travelling along Luma Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State was hit by an improvised explosive device planted by suspected terrorists. The explosion occurred after attackers reportedly destroyed a bridge linking Luma, Babana and Agwara communities, a key route used by traders heading to the Babanna border market.

Spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, saying security operatives had begun clearance operations. β€œOn 23rd March 2026 at about 6.30 am, a report received revealed that on the same date at about 2 am, suspected terrorists within the park forest used an explosive device and bombed a bridge located along Luma road, Borgu LGA, connecting Luma-Babana-Agwara communities,” he said.
