DR Congo defeated Nigeria 4–3 on penalties in Morocco to reach the intercontinental play-offs, four months before the governing body announced penalties for misconduct linked to the match.
According to FIFA’s disciplinary overview, Nigeria was fined 1,000 Swiss francs for crowd misconduct involving the throwing of objects, while DR Congo received a 5,000 Swiss francs penalty after supporters used laser pointers. The sanctions come as FIFA continues reviewing Nigeria’s protest alleging DR Congo fielded ineligible players during the decisive qualifier.
