Olumide Akpata, Labour Party’s 2024 Edo governorship candidate, on Tuesday said Peter Obi influenced his decision to defect to the African Democratic Congress. Speaking at a reception in Benin, Akpata said he joined the ADC after Obi’s move on December 31, 2025, adding that he sought “to add value” to the party.
Obi reaffirmed his vision, saying, “our commitment to a new Nigeria is total though they are doing everything possible to stop us.” ADC leaders expressed optimism about 2027, with Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor alleging plans to rig elections and warning, “We are not going to allow the rigging they are planning.”
