Chief Priest urged the South-East to back Tinubu in 2027, arguing that alignment with the president could lead to Nnamdi Kanu’s release and pave the way for an Igbo presidency.
Popular businessman Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Chief Priest, has urged the South-East to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election, suggesting such backing could facilitate the release of Nnamdi Kanu and create the possibility of an Igbo presidency in the future. Speaking on Instagram and in Pidgin, he commended a South-East traditional ruler for personally appealing to Tinubu regarding Kanu, saying, “God bless you, Your Royal Highness for partaking in Nigeria. If Your Highness did not participate in Abuja, how Asiwaju wan take hear this message.”
Chief Priest advised that fighting the government would not yield results, and that cooperation could lead to dialogue and action on Kanu’s case. He noted that Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election without majority South-East votes, and warned that repeating opposition could weaken the region’s bargaining power. He further stated, “Hopefully, he will hand over power to an Igbo man. He made Buhari president, a Hausa man. He made himself, a Yoruba man president. What makes you think he won’t make an Igbo man president if we clearly support him for one more term?”
