Gunmen ambushed security forces along the Bingi-Kekun Waje-Gusau Road in Zamfara State on Monday, killing five soldiers and a police officer. The attack came after troops from Operation Fansan Yamma had conducted a three-day security operation across Birnin Magaji and Anka areas, during which three suspects were arrested and four terrorists were killed, according to a statement by David Adewusi, media information officer for the operation.
Adewusi said the ambush occurred at Gidan Wagni while the troops were en route to Kekun Waje in response to a distress call. Despite being caught off guard, the soldiers and police engaged the assailants, preventing further harm to nearby communities. Following the attack, the OPFY Mobile Strike Team, alongside the 1 Brigade Quick Reaction Force from Forward Operating Bases Kanoma and Kekun Waje, were swiftly deployed to the area to reinforce security.
