FG budgets ₦1.07bn for renovation of Tinubu, Shettima homes

The Federal Government has earmarked ₦1.07 billion for the repair of the residential buildings of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in the 2026 budget, bringing total allocations for the renovation of their official residences and quarters to ₦18.4 billion over the past three years, Daily Trust reports. The development comes as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), whose spending falls under the presidency section of the budget, proposed ₦3.2 billion for cleaning, fumigation, meals and refreshments in the same fiscal year.

President Tinubu presented the 2026 appropriation, titled “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity,” to a joint session of the National Assembly on December 19. Prior to this, he had written to both chambers seeking the repeal and reenactment of the 2024 and 2025 Appropriation Acts, with revised total expenditures of ₦43.56 trillion and ₦48.32 trillion respectively, to ensure full implementation by March 31, 2026. The 2026 budget proposes a total expenditure of ₦58.18 trillion, including ₦15.52 trillion for debt servicing, against projected revenue of ₦34.33 trillion, leaving a deficit of ₦23.85 trillion to be financed through domestic and foreign borrowing.

Details from a budget document published on the Budget Office of the Federation’s website last week show that the State House allocated ₦459.4 million for the “rehabilitation/repairs of residential building” of the President, while ₦615.5 million was set aside for similar works on the Vice President’s residence.
