An explosion struck a mosque during the Maghrib congregational prayer, killing several worshippers and leaving others injured. Survivors said the assailants sneaked into the mosque before detonating the device as prayers were underway, causing panic and casualties among those present.
One of the survivors recounted the moment of the attack, saying, “The bomber detonated when the first raka’at of the Maghrib prayer was observed. Many worshippers died, others sustained various injuries.” Emergency responses followed as those who escaped the blast sought safety.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. However, suspicion has fallen on the Boko Haram armed group, which has carried out numerous suicide bombings in the region in recent months, often targeting civilian and religious gatherings.
