Operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command have arrested 20 suspected cultists believed to be involved in the killing of a police officer and the amputation of his hand during a retaliatory attack by members of the Neo Black Movement in Ilesi, near Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
According to spokesperson Umma Ayuba, the suspects opened fire on November 29, killing the officer and injuring two residents before fleeing with his severed hand.
A coordinated intelligence-led raid by the Zonal Dragon Squad on December 1 led to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of firearms, ammunition, mobile phones and other items, while efforts continue to track a fleeing suspect believed to be holding the amputated hand.
The AIG in charge of the zone, Adegoke Fayoade, assured residents of intensified security and urged them to report suspicious movements as investigations proceed.
