“I don’t know her. We have no connection to each other.”
Singer-songwriter SZA has clarified her stance on recent music industry disputes, saying she has “no idea” where rumors of a feud with rapper Nicki Minaj originated. The Grammy winner told GQ that she has never had any personal or professional connection with Minaj.
“I don’t know her,” SZA said. “We have no connection to each other. There’s no backstory. Like, there was no through line narrative. It was just like, ‘Roc Nation’…. I don’t know where it came from.”
The supposed feud began last summer after Minaj accused SZA’s manager, Terrence “Punch” Henderson of Top Dawg Entertainment, of bullying her online.
SZA also addressed speculation about her ties to the much-publicized conflict between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, saying she remains close to both artists. “It was something between two grown-ass men, so why would I insert myself between something between two grown-ass men?” she said, calling the situation “unfortunate.”
