EFCC suspends officers over alleged ₦10m extortion

“The officers… have been relieved of their operational duties while investigations continue.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has suspended some of its operatives over allegations of extorting ₦10 million from Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips.

EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the suspension in a statement on Saturday in Abuja. The artist had alleged that EFCC officers detained him for five days and released him only after he paid ₦10 million, despite no evidence of wrongdoing.

Mr Oyewale said the commission viewed the allegations with “utmost seriousness” and had launched a full-scale investigation. “The officers in the team that handled his case have been relieved of their operational duties while investigations continue,” he said.

He emphasized EFCC’s commitment to integrity, adding that any staff found culpable would face disciplinary action. “If the allegation is found to be false and raised to tarnish the image of the commission, appropriate sanctions will also be imposed,” he said.
