Trump warns of possible U.S. military strike in Nigeria over alleged Christian killings

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened military intervention in Nigeria over alleged killings of Christians, a claim strongly refuted by President Bola Tinubu.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to send American troops into Nigeria over what he described as the “killing of Christians” by Islamist groups.

Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform, claimed Christians in Nigeria face an “existential threat,” urging U.S. lawmakers to investigate what he called “mass slaughter.” He warned that if the Nigerian government fails to act, “the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing.’”

He added: “If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians.”

Responding, President Bola Tinubu dismissed Trump’s comments, insisting Nigeria remains committed to religious freedom. “Religious freedom and tolerance have been a core tenet of our collective identity and shall always remain so,” Tinubu said.

Experts note Nigeria’s ongoing violence involves complex ethnic and regional conflicts affecting both Christians and Muslims alike.
