Teenager Joy Ogah became Nigeria’s symbolic vice president for a day, using the platform to advocate for inclusive education and girls’ rights.
A teenager, Joy Ogah, on Monday symbolically assumed the office of Nigeria’s Vice President, using the platform to advocate for girl-child education and empowerment.
The event, held at the Presidential Villa, was part of a courtesy visit by PLAN International, led by Helen Mfonobong Idiong, to Vice President Kashim Shettima.
From the Vice President’s seat, Ogah called attention to the plight of over 10.5 million out-of-school children, more than 60 per cent of them girls. “We must invest in education that is safe and inclusive for every child in Nigeria,” she urged.
She further appealed for free sanitary products in schools and better access to clean water and nutrition, stressing that “every girl deserves a classroom, a choice, dignity, and not silence.”
Shettima reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to advancing girl-child education, saying, “In President Tinubu, you have an ally you can believe in and invest your trust in.”
