Barau says Nigeria is investing heavily in hospitals to end medical tourism.
Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, says Nigeria is building a healthcare system strong enough to end medical tourism. He made the declaration on Sunday while inspecting seven major projects he facilitated at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), describing them as part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Our goal is to make our hospitals so good that Nigerians will no longer need to travel to Egypt or India for medical treatment,” he said, adding that the country has the human resources to achieve global standards if investments are sustained.
The projects include a cardiothoracic centre, paediatrics complex, new classrooms and offices for the School of Health Information Management, a student hostel for the College of Nursing Sciences, as well as internal roads and interlocking works.
Barau, accompanied by four senators, assured continued legislative backing for health reforms, saying the trend of medical tourism “will soon stop with the necessary investment.”
