I sought Tinubu’s pardon for Maryam Sanda — late husband’s father

The father of the late Bilyaminu Bello says he forgave his daughter-in-law, Maryam Sanda, years ago and sought her release on humanitarian grounds.

The father of the late Bilyaminu Bello, who was murdered by his wife, Maryam Sanda, in 2017, says he supports President Bola Tinubu’s decision to pardon her.

In a joint interview with Maryam’s father, Alhaji Garba Sanda, Alhaji Ahmed Bello Isa revealed that he had long sought clemency for his daughter-in-law, who was sentenced to death for his son’s murder.

“As a devout Muslim, I had long accepted the tragic incident and chosen to forgive and leave judgment to Allah,” he said.

“I did not want her prosecuted because I didn’t want my grandchildren, who lost their father, to also lose their mother.”

Bello added that executing Maryam “would not bring back” his son.

Alhaji Garba Sanda expressed gratitude to the Bello family, calling their compassion “a true reflection of faith and forgiveness.”

Both families pledged to raise the late couple’s children together in peace.
