Celebrity blast AI’s rise after AI artist Xania Monet signs $3M contract

Kehlani condemned AI singer Xania Monet’s $3 million deal with Hallwood Media, saying artificial intelligence is displacing authentic musicians and undermining the meaning of art.

Grammy-nominated R&B singer Kehlani has strongly criticized the rise of artificial intelligence in music after learning that virtual artist Xania Monet signed a $3 million deal with Hallwood Media and charted on Billboard. Monet, created by poet and designer Talisha Jones using the AI program Suno, recently reached No. 25 on the Emerging Talents chart and No. 21 on Hot Gospel Songs.

For Kehlani, the milestone highlighted a deeper concern about authenticity in the industry. “This is so beyond out of our control. Nothing and no one on Earth will ever be able to justify AI to me,” she said. In a detailed post, she lamented that AI projects take opportunities from human artists, writing, “Art is not a money grab.

Music means something significant to culture, to humanity, to people.” Fans echoed her concerns, warning that emotional depth cannot be programmed.
