Police drop case against Pastor Adefarasin over viral stun gun video

Lagos police have cleared Pastor Paul Adefarasin of wrongdoing, confirming the gun-like object seen in a viral video was a stun gun, not a firearm.

The Lagos State Police Command has announced that it will not pursue charges against Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House on the Rock Church after investigating a viral video showing him holding a gun-like object.

Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said in a statement on Wednesday that the case was discontinued because the object was confirmed to be a stun gun and not a lethal weapon.

“After a thorough investigation, including interrogation and a cautionary statement from Pastor Adefarasin, it was established that the object in question was a stun gun and not a firearm,” the statement read.

The video, which surfaced online in June, showed the cleric pointing the device at a content creator while driving in Lagos, sparking criticism on social media. Adefarasin denied carrying a firearm, insisting it was a non-lethal device.

Police noted that while stun guns are classified as prohibited anti-riot equipment, there were “no sufficient grounds” to proceed further.
