Sanwo-Olu unblocked activist Festus Ogun on X after facing a rights lawsuit, reigniting Nigeria’s digital rights debate.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unblocked human rights lawyer Festus Ogun on X (formerly Twitter) following a lawsuit alleging rights violations.
Mr Ogun confirmed the development in a Saturday post, saying the governor invited him to Lagos House, Marina, for a meeting. “Sanwo-Olu has unblocked me on X (Twitter)… to amicably resolve my complaint of human rights violations. We will continue to hold authorities accountable, regardless. Aluta continua!” he wrote.
The activist had sued at the Federal High Court, Lagos, arguing that being blocked since 2021 violated his rights to freedom of expression, access to information, and protection from discrimination. He described the case as a precedent-setting fight for digital rights.
Although Mr Sanwo-Olu has yet to release a statement, rights advocates view the move as a retreat from a stance that fueled concerns about silencing critics online.
