Chelsea charged with 74 FA rule breaches covering 2009–2022

Chelsea face 74 FA charges over historical financial and regulatory breaches but pledge full cooperation to resolve the case.

Chelsea Football Club has been charged with 74 breaches of Football Association (FA) regulations, spanning alleged misconduct between 2009 and 2022, primarily during the 2010/11 to 2015/16 seasons. In a statement on Thursday, the FA listed violations including the FA Football Agents Regulations (J1 and C2), Regulations on Working with Intermediaries (A2 and A3), and Third Party Investment in Players Regulations (A1 and B3). The club has until September 19, 2025, to respond.

Chelsea acknowledged the charges, emphasizing cooperation and transparency. “Chelsea FC is pleased to confirm that its engagement with The FA concerning matters that were self-reported by the club is now reaching a conclusion,” the club said. It explained that the current ownership, which took control on May 30, 2022, discovered “potentially incomplete financial reporting concerning historical transactions and other potential breaches of FA rules” during due diligence. The club added, “We will continue working collaboratively with The FA to conclude this matter as swiftly as possible,” thanking the FA for its engagement.
