The victim, Afudu Tanko, is currently receiving treatment after the altercation.
A military officer on Saturday allegedly stabbed a tricycle rider during a dispute over N200 at Rafin-Kada village, Wukari LGA of Taraba State.
Eyewitnesses said the soldier demanded N200 from the rider, Afudu Tanko, at a newly mounted checkpoint, but the victim refused, insisting the post was illegal. “The soldier demanded for a N200 settlement and Afudu refused,” a witness said.
The rider reportedly drove past the checkpoint, prompting the soldier to trace him to his residence, where a fight ensued. “He engaged the tricycle rider in a physical fight and stabbed him with a jackknife,” the witness added.
After community members intervened, the soldier allegedly returned with about 20 troops who assaulted residents. Tanko is now receiving treatment in a Wukari hospital.
Director of Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Taraba, Lt. Mohammed, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is underway and urged residents to remain calm.
