The management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, has condemned the alleged invasion of its premises by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) around 2 a.m. on Sunday.
A statement by OOPL Managing Director, Vitalis Ortese, said the operation, allegedly led by one “Olapade,” caused panic, injuries and “terror among residents on the site.” He described the incident as “a blatant violation of the rights of the people” and of OOPL as a corporate citizen.
According to the statement, the EFCC operatives “engaged in sporadic shooting” despite police officers being on duty for a private, pre-advertised event. Ortese said the officers presented no warrant and that police at the gates and from Kemta Division were unaware of the raid.
“When the armed men were accosted… they simply retorted, ‘We are doing our job’,” the statement added.
The management demanded an explanation and apology, warning it would seek legal redress if the EFCC failed to act.
The EFCC later announced it arrested 93 suspected internet fraudsters in Abeokuta.
