Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress Captain, Amy Okonkwo, has been named the tournament’s MVP after the AfroBasket Women 2025 Team Tournament

The announcement was made in a video shared by the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism an the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa via X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.

The Rena Wakama-led team was crowned champions of the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket and made history as the first country to win five consecutive Women’s Afrobasket championships after defeating Mali in the final on Sunday at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
