Lawyers have petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) in Bauchi, alleging contempt of court regarding the continued detention of a 17-year-old girl. Despite a Federal High Court order for her release to her mother, the teenager remains in the custody of the Bauchi State Orphans and Vulnerable Children Agency (BASOVCA).
The petition follows claims that the teenager was forcibly converted to Islam without parental consent, a move lawyers argue violates the Bauchi State Child Protection Law. The situation has drawn condemnation from the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, urging compliance with court orders.
