Ebola kills 300 children in DR Congo, says UN

The UN reports over 300 children have died in the Ebola outbreak in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Children are disproportionately affected, comprising nearly a quarter of confirmed cases and almost a third of all deaths. Health experts urge vaccine trials to combat the spread of the Bundibugyo species.

The crisis unfolds in Ituri province, where conflict has displaced nearly a million people, with women and children forming 80% of those affected. The outbreak is also disrupting essential healthcare, leading to a 40% drop in service use in the hardest-hit areas.
