The Senate has clarified why the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is excluded from the proposed state police system. According to Senate Committee on Media and Publicity Chairman Yemi Adaramodu, the FCT lacks a governor and a State House of Assembly, differentiating it from the 36 states.
Adaramodu explained that the FCT is directly administered by the Federal Government, with its minister operating under the Federal Executive Council, and legislative powers resting with the National Assembly. Consequently, federal police remain in charge of the territory’s security.
