Atiku Abubakar Responds to Obasanjo’s Criticisms
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has publicly addressed remarks made by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who called his selection as running mate in 1999 his ‘biggest political mistake’. Abubakar stated that Obasanjo’s comments stem from personal resentment and distort historical facts, particularly concerning the opposition to Obasanjo’s third-term agenda. He asserted his pride in standing by the constitution and Nigerian democracy, viewing any resulting resentment as a ‘badge of honour’. Abubakar also highlighted his past support for Obasanjo, including during his imprisonment.
