The Senate has launched a 23-day investigation into Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, summoning NNPCL, CBN and major oil firms to defend NEITI audit reports covering 2021 to 2023.
Senate Sets 23-Day Probe of Oil Sector, Summons NNPCL, CBN
The Senate is turning up the heat on oil sector accountability. Per Vanguard, the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, chaired by Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, will run a 23-day hearing from August 3 to 25, scrutinising NEITI’s Oil and Gas Industry Audit Reports for 2021, 2022 and 2023.
NNPCL, CBN, NUPRC and the NDDC will be first to appear on August 3, followed by NSA’s office, NIPC and RMAFC on August 4. NNPCL and the Ministry of National Planning follow on August 5.
Major oil firms — including Shell, Chevron, TotalEnergies, Seplat and Oando — are also billed to appear. The Committee has invited memoranda from civil society groups and industry stakeholders to broaden the process.
