NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has outlined an economic plan centred on agriculture, manufacturing and small business support, arguing Nigeria could earn more from farming than oil if it shifted from a consumption-based economy to a production-driven one.

Forget oil — Peter Obi says Nigeria’s real goldmine is farmland. According to Nairametrics, the NDC presidential candidate used a Channels Television interview on Sunday to lay out an economic plan built on agriculture, manufacturing and small business growth.
Obi argued that Nigeria could earn more from agriculture than oil, citing the Netherlands’ $130 billion in annual agricultural exports — three times Nigeria’s oil revenue. He blamed cheap food imports for stalling local rice production, currently under 10 million tonnes yearly.
He said agriculture must feed into manufacturing to create jobs, pointing to Indonesia and China, where small businesses drive most employment, and pledged government support rather than direct production.
