El-Rufai’s wiretapping trial drags on as court adjourns till September and rejects his plea to ease bail conditions.
El-Rufai’s case adjourned till September after 126 days in custody
Nasir El-Rufai’s legal troubles show no signs of ending soon. The former Kaduna governor has now spent 126 days in custody, and a Federal High Court in Abuja just pushed his case to September 22.
El-Rufai is battling charges of abuse of office, money laundering, and allegedly wiretapping NSA Nuhu Ribadu’s phone line. He’s pleaded not guilty across the board.
Prosecutors closed their case on Tuesday after calling two witnesses, with El-Rufai’s team planning a no-case submission. He also asked for softer bail terms, but Justice Joyce Abdulmalik wasn’t having it.
If he’s still locked up by the next date, that’s 217 days total. His family says finding a qualified surety has been a struggle, and they’re worried about his health, Daily Trust reports.
